minty is my favourite and arguably the BEST mlp ever (well. unless you have a favourite in which case to each their own!!) she has been one of my hyperfixations since early july which MAY manifest into a special interest we don't know yet. here are some raesons why i love minty
1. she is headcannoned by many to be autistic! i am autistic too... so seeing a character i relate to makes me very happy. in g3, she has special interests which are the colour green and socks ( which canonically no other ponies wear, which is a nice touch because i have some more niche special interests as well! ) she is also kinda awkward and clumsy and has a unique communication style.
2. she is arguably the longest running pony!! she was a part of the ORIGINAL 6 that came out in 1982, and she's lasted from then all the way to now where she's featured in g5, which is super cool.
3. she is kinda mysterious. she was only really in the g3 show, though she appears in 4 and 5 it's only for a moment as a background character. despite this, she appears in toys for g1, 3, 4 AND 5... so she shows up in playsets and releases as a little easter egg, which i think is really nice.
4. i love her character design!!! she has 2 main designs, g1 ( green body, white hair and eleven clovers as her cutie mark ) and g3+ ( turquoise body, pink hair, peppermint as her cutie mark ) i love BOTH of these designs a lot, although of course my favourite is g3+ because i love pink!
original minty!!! us/common (1982-1983)
this is the standard minty. she is made of pvc which is annoying since the chemicals like migrate leaving pink spots ( ̄s ̄;PEOPLE CALL IT PONY CANCER!!! and it's so hard to remove ugh it breaks my heart... it came with a turquoise brush and blue bows for her hair. the us backcard for minty is just the same for each of the six ponies, HOWEVER the uk version is goated and has an actual description: "over the hawthorn hedge minty had spotted a large patch of her favourite mint. she knelt down to smell the delicious aroma, nibbled a leaf and then lay right down in it - rolling over and over, until her while body smelled of mint too." this is an ff (flat foot) pony to show that this is a year one (1982-1983) pony.
cf (concave feet) minty (1983-1984)
MOST g1 ponies will be cf so it's really cool to find one that is ff because that's like. orginal. but it's still minty so who cares. fun fact: although this minty version was released in '83, her hoof says 1982!!! weird stuff. this version also came with the ribbon and comb.
mail order minty (1983-1984)
this is a MAIL ORDER MINTY. ok beau what is that. WELL. at the beginning of year 2 (aka 1983-1984) hasbro created a mail order program known as the horsehoe points program!! consumers would clip the horseshoe points from the packages of their storebought ponies and mail them, along with a check or money order, to hasbro in exchange for exclusive ponies and merchandise. the us mail insert order story reads: "minty closes her eyes and makes a special wish with a four-leaf clover from the meadow." as we know (or maybe you DON'T know grr) g3 minty is known for being pretty clumsy and her cutie mark is different too. this is an interesting contrast from the original minty, who is known for the four leaf clover and being pretty lucky!! also this minty is mega expensive and rare ESPECIALLY SEALED it's usually about £120-£200....ggulp
retro minty (2008)
the 25th anniversary minty!! maybe they used a different material...im not sure. but as you can see she is a brighter green. this one is pretty rare, i haven't seen it talked about or for sale anywhere!!! this was an ff minty that YES DID COME WITH THE COMB. AND BOWS.
dolly mix minty (2010)
dolly mix ponies are about the same size as ponyville ponies (which are small and plastic) EXCEPT for the fact that dolly mix has "real" manes and tails. they came in a blind box with some candy. mmm. don't think these are super rare, you'll fine them from £5-£20.
35th anniversary minty (2018)
these are super cute!! and pretty common of course. yes again we have the comb, bows AND as an extra, a little poster!!
40th anniversary minty (2023)
even though these are newer, i really don't see them that often, the 35th anniversary release was more popular and produced i think.
g3 debuted minty in actual media, since she wasn't in the mlp movies or tv shows before this point. she was voiced bt tabitha st. germain, the va for rarity, princess luna and granny smith in g4!!
glitter celebration minty (2003)
debut minty in donkey pose!! this came with a mint green bow brush and a friendship ribbon with mint green pony charm. i love the pink heart in this model! her backcard reads: "minty loves crazy, silly, upside-down days. she's always coming up with new jokes to tell and fun things to do. with MINTY every day is a dizzy delight!" and then it lists the things she likes to do which are: "find new socks to collect" "play checkers with sweetberry" and "stand on my head for a while" i find this really cute since i ALSO like to be upside down :3 this release not only debuted her character but the ENTIRE line of g3, accompanied by kimono, pinkie pie and sparkleworks. this same pony and model was also use later in 2003 in promotional packaging for the pilot 'episode' of gen 3, 'a charming birthday'. the rest of the eight main ponies where released with the promotional packaging.
glitter celebration minty var. 2 (2003)
this minty was sold in a set with either autumn skye, g3 butterscotch or star swirl in late 2003. everything about her model remained the same including accesories except for a colour variation, where her previously pink candy stripes on her cutie mark and hoof heart are now a deeper red colour. people really tend to overprice this one too it's very annoying...ugh
ice dancing with glitter glide bonus minty (2004)
DIVA MINTY!!!!! a lot of good things came out of 2004 okay, rhcp live at hyde park come on. BUT DIVA MINTY?? this tops it ALL. she was given this GORGEOUS new pose and was released as a bonus with glitter glide. sadly she did not get any of her own accessories in this release.
disney princess minty (2004)
they really upped their game this year, okay. definetly one of my favourite minty toys, she looks adorable. AND ARIEL?? perfect match. love it. she was sold excusively at the 'once upon a toy' disney store. she's in donkey pose with no colour variation from the glitter celebration original minty. she was one of four ponies in this release. there is a backcard but since it's not minty specific i don't think there's any use in writing it out :P
wing wishes minty (2005)
again, one of my favourites, she's so fucking cute in this outfit aaawwww!!!! here she is released in ANOTHER new pose, walking pose! she was sold either individually or with bonus pony tea leaf. she came with her original mint bow brush, fabric wings, a pink wand, ring and antenna headband. sometimes this is overpriced too at like £100+ but i don't think it's that rare...
winter minty (2005)
THIS ONE MIGHT BE THE FAVOURITE. minty is kinda the christmas pony, mint is a sort of festive flavour, she got her own christmas movie and her birthday's in december so it makes sense and is very true to her character. ALSO. SHE HAS HER SOCKS!!!!! awww and the scarf. awwwwww!!!! this is what her backcard reads: "MINTY's colorful sock collection sure comes in handy on frosty-cold days! of course, she has them in so many colors it sometimes takes her all morning to find four that match!" and then pretty sure this is in her voice so she says "today my friend sno-glo™ is going to show me how to make a sock puppet!"
collector's edition tin (2007)
this tin was exclusive to australia with minty in donkey pose. the visible differences in this pony are a lack of magnet on her hoof and matte body.
sharing tea with pinkie pie and minty (2007)
k. this is my favourite minty SET with another pony. just because minty is her best frienddd they balance each other out like come onnn!! these were sold EXCLUSIVELY at the mlp live shows so i assume it's kinda rare since i've only seen it for sale ONE TIME and it was like £100... she's seen in a NEW pose here which is january carnation pose! a notable difference in this model is her single coloured pink hair with no tinsel (siiigh)
favourite friends minty (2007)
she was included in wave 2 of the favourite friends series in 2007 (which i haven't actually seen yet). while this series was considered the precursour for core 7, most of the ponies included did not make the core 7 cut but duh of course minty had to come through. she is in a new pose AGAIN with the star surprise pose differences in this release are the 3d cutie mark which i haven't seen before... no hoof heart or magnet, and lack of tinsel in her hair AGAIN UGH.
a very minty christmas (2007)
ANOTHER POSE. NEW POSE. the daffidazey pose!! her hair is solid coloured again but we have some tinsel yay! she had a bunch of accessories in this one including a red christmas hat and a couple chests. the backcard stats read birthday month: december, favorite colour: green, favourite flower: snowdrops, favourite thing to do: buying and wrapping holiday gifts for my friends!"
winter series (2008)
yeah okay another pose of course, we have the makeup cheerilee pose. i think this is my favourite minty DESIGN. i love her hair with the various colour, and the pattern on her is very festive and very cute which suits her a lot! the backcard reads "MINTY loves wintertime fun - she makes snow ponies with her friends, then warms up with a cup of hot chocolate!"
