go back!!! i'm scawwed
john anthony motherfucking frusciante. not only is he one of the best guitarists of ALL TIME, but also MY fave...haha. rhcp is my MAIN special interest but john frusciante is definetly the centre of that, like i don't care for anthony or chad as much as i do john. he keeps me goin!!! he's there for me when times are tough and he makes me really happy. so. this is a page for HIM and alllll the stuff i love about him. NOTE: YES CAPTIVE. THE BIOGRAPHY IS COMING SOON. i put it on a spacehey blog not too long ago but spacehey has freakin shut down in my country so i can't put it here yet...dattebayo...i don't wanna rewrite allat
1. he is so RAW. and real. he was actually a HUGE part of my journey with god and spirituality,,, he's very in tuned with these sorts of things. as he said in the empyrean interview, it goes AGAINST his beliefs to talk about his religion too much...sigh. but he goes into it a bit in THIS interview and throughout his music. i really like his outlook on things and it often aligns with me, just prioritising love and expression, and spirits and 4D and whatev. he loves kitties (liek i do :3) even dedicating a whole ALBUM to his gf's cat maya and lets his cats listen to music because he says they like it too. he's not super flashy like a lot of rockstars, he can't even drive, he doesn't live in some crazy mansion. however he is STILL a millionaire and i'm no hypocrite so i'd totally eat him even though i do like him.
2. he's been through SO MUCH and he made it out. i mean you're a 19 year old joining one of the biggest growing bands in the country (the members are all ten years older than you) and you HATE change and getting too much attention. he went down this like. awful path with drugs and stuff to cope with it all. he was in the worst place of his life no one spoke to him but his dealer. and yet he got clean all on his own. HOW YOU SAY??? he was just like. fuck it. let's see what happens. then he was like oh shit that's kinda nice and he kept doing it. his perseverance and ability to basically COME BACK TO LIFE from tha dead (i mean this iconic interview in 1994) shows basically a dead man and he was only 24 at this point my poor baby :( AND HE GOT BACK OUT. after he rejoined rhcp in '98 he started going into this like intense recovery from drugs. he had to get his whole nose and jaw reconstructed, arms with like skin grafts (so his asterisk tattoo which i wanna get too was pretty much destroyed) and just this whole painful process. in a '99 magazine i own john spoke about his recovery and said that he had felt ashamed to even call himself john frusciante and that he felt like a shell of himself and grew out that beard so that no one could see the swelling ╥﹏╥ I CRIED SO HARD THAT MY NOSE STARTED BLEEDING SO NOW THAT PAGE IS COVERED IN BLOOD (つ﹏⊂) but SERIOUSLY this guy got me through much shit i was always like. if john could do it i can too. and at my lowest i'd always listen to porcelain by rhcp or john's cover of how deep is your love...awwww i love him
3. AUTISM!!!!!!!!!!!! like most things i'm obsessed with..he's VAGUELY autistic. the jf like. community i guess has pointed this out but some people are like auuugh he was only autistic after the drugs but I DISAGREE. as the autistic girl of the heavens, he is TOTALLY neurodivergent. his special interest is MUSIC, he'd literally play guitar for 9-10 hours a day and memorised every single rhcp song by ear before joining, he didn't get along with people his age (he'd invite them over to listen to records but they thought he was weird so he didn't have any friends), he HATES change + attention (rhcp getting big really freaked him out, he said it wouldn't be the same if things changed and he wouldn't like them if they got big), he HATES crowds + loud noises (you'll see a lot of red carpet walks with rhcp missing john because he doesn't like the lights and crowds), avoids eye contact interviews are so silly because he's never looking at the guy and just ugh. he's my autistic king. okay. i'm not DIAGNOSING him i just. as an autistic girl i relate to him a lot and it makes me very happy.
4. his music is FIRE. okay. bssm is lidewally one of the best 10/10 albums OAT. and like. he's just. yeah. his solo stuff is magnificent too i mean i'm sure you're listening to it now... it's OTHERWORDLY. each lyric is so emotional and meaningful, it's almost poetry, listening to his music makes me feel like talking to a friend...
5. i love that he explores different genres too he's so me!!! he does electronic music as well as folk and rock and stuff, he uses the alias trickfinger for his electronic stuff and his wife is a dj >_< HE ALSO DID A COLLAB PROJECT WITH VENETIAN SNARES CALLED SPEED DEALER MOMS WHICH IS SOOOO COOL!!!!!!! because i love them both. and his fave dj is baseck who did a few sets with MY fave dj who is djflapjack. isn't that awesome/?@!??!??!
6. he sillyyy i don't know. he's really funny and sweet...
cute little vid where he's giggling (>﹏<)
7. ISSUES with reality that i also relate to. john has issues with like psychosis and schizophrenia that existed throughout his childhood and was amplified by his drug use. i mean, in the '94 interview, he talks about how he sees and hears ghosts, and how flea reminds him that not everyone can see them. he also talks about like communication with plants, andjust other wacky stuff that isn't entirely. like normal. i've always been like that too, it can be really terrifying. but his music and his struggles reminds me that like i'm not alone and i love him. mwah. i love you johm frusciante.....
niandra lades & usually just a tshirt (1994)
this is one of my favourite albums EVER. and it was his first solo release. yes reader, i DO have this on cd!!! when i was mega depressed i used to listen to it on my cd player (because i didn't have like. a phone or anything) and i would cry a LOT. if i had a daughter, i'd name her niandra after this album. john's mentioned multiple times that though he doesn't regret using drugs, he didn't need any of it to create the work he did. now this is partially true, considering most of this album was actually written from 1990-1992, during the recording of blood sugar, when he wasn't at that 1994 interview state we tend to picture when thinking of niandra. the pressure of fame was already getting to him, and that with constant drug use and crazy relationships all only in his early 20s was getting to his head. he explains that the tracks were more or less written in chronological order, with most of the niandra lades half being written while he was still with the chili peppers in 1992. after leaving the band, he wrote some tracks found on the 2nd half of the album, usually just a tshirt. he'd put on the makeup seen on the cover of the album, of a character from his friend's film he acted in, and go to his dealer, more dishevelled each time he went. he didn't really speak to anyone either, explaining in an interview, saying " no one's genuinely smiled at you for like a year " in reference to relying on drugs and its effect on who you are in essence. you kind of become a zombie, and eventually in 1994 he would live on the brink of death, all would be waiting for his death, a cruel and slow purgatory. listening from beginning to end captures his descent into madness though note it only got worse from here. i wouldn't call this a ' heroin album ' as a lot of people think. don't get me wrong, he was definitely mentally unwell and using drugs. but that's not all it was. still, the tracks themselves are still meaningful, beautifully composed despite production being messy. he'd show his personal view of the world at the time, through cryptic lyrics and bizarre guitar effects. ' blood on my neck from success ' and ' running away into you ' are great examples of this. this is and will continue to be one of my favourite albums ever. it wasn't supposed to mean anything, or be perceived in way or another. it was his mind spewed onto paper then recorded. yet still, it gives a look into fame, drugs and john frusciante.
BONUS LORE
in 1993 johnny depp and gibson haynes (of the butthole surfers) released THIS documentary on john frusciante's living situation, called "stuff". depp and frusciante were friends during this darker part of frusciante's life, and depp was actually the one who encouraged him to release the album at all. niandra lades was more of a personal project for john. the doc features multiple songs from the a side (niandra lades) of the album. it's really sad to watch, and is set in john's beverly hills home, totally vandalised and littered with trash and needles.
